Live act of the week

Whilst in Barcelona we made a trip to the Harlem Jazz club. Well couldn't find the local version of King Tut's Wah Wah Hut in town so had to go somewhere to while away the night. Anyway, for the price of a San Miguel or two or three we were treated to a marvelous gig by a band called Down Home. They describe themselves as "neo swing, crazy bluesin', shaky rhythm & groovy boogie", and that just about summed up the night. Absolutely brilliant and I’m sure they would go down a storm her in Scotland if anybody was able to bring them across. As ever, they had a CD to sell after the event – ‘Running Out of Time’ which was duly purchased to remind me of a great night.

Unfortunately, while the album is good, it doesn’t capture the dynamics between the five band members in their live show. But don’t be put off. If you’re heading for Barcelona, and there are plenty of cheap flights now, visit their website, see if they’re playing locally and make a point of heading along to see them.
